The Joel Zelnik Trio Presents “My Bill Evans – A Personal Conversation”

SATURDAY OCT. 11 at 2PM CLOSTER NJ PUBLIC LIBRARY 280 HIGH ST., CLOSTER NJ 07624

201-786-4197  www.closterpubliclibrary.org

Join us for a heartfelt tribute to one of jazz's greatest innovators. This special program is inspired by the dialogues between Closter resident Joel Zelnik and legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans—seven-time Grammy Award winner—who performed at the renowned “Village Gate” in the 1960s.

Experience signature Evans works performed alongside pieces chosen by Joel that reflect his admiration and the influence of Evans' style. Joel's personal connection to Evans is rooted in their shared history; during the mid-1960s, Joel had the privilege of playing at the Top of the Gate in NYC on Monday nights, sharing sets with the Bill Evans Trio. Evans once told Joel, “As a musician, it’s not what you play, but how you play it,” a philosophy Joel carries into every performance.

Bill Evans, born in Plainfield, NJ, and a resident of Closter during the 1970s, is widely regarded as the most important innovator of jazz piano in the late 20th century. His sense of humor and humility endeared him to many, and his timeless artistry continues to inspire.
